Ninja Fruit Flowering Time
Grapefruit Haze × Grape Ape
Ninja Fruit is a hybrid strain recognized for its prominent grape and citrus aroma, often accompanied by visually striking purple coloration. It has gained a reputation for balancing commercial appeal with a distinct terpene profile.
Appearance
Ninja Fruit plants typically grow to a medium height, between 80-130 cm indoors, and exhibit strong lateral branching. The leaves can transition from deep green to shades of violet or plum, particularly when nighttime temperatures drop late in the flowering cycle. Buds form dense, conical clusters with minimal foxtailing when environmental conditions are optimized. The plant develops a frosted appearance due to robust trichome coverage, with vivid orange pistils maturing to burnt orange or amber near harvest. Swelling calyxes and anthocyanin concentration on sugar leaves and calyx tips contribute to its visual appeal.
Aroma & Flavor
The aroma of Ninja Fruit is characterized by high-toned notes of grape and citrus, often likened to grape candy, fruit punch, and grapefruit zest. Underlying this are secondary scents of floral lilac sweetness and a musky, incense-like undertone that becomes more apparent after grinding. The flavor profile mirrors the aroma, with sweet grape notes on the inhale and bright citrus oils on the exhale. A subtle herbal quality, possibly from myrcene and humulene, adds complexity without becoming skunky. When properly cured, it leaves a clean, resinous coating and a candied grape aftertaste.
Effects
Users report that Ninja Fruit offers a balanced experience, often described as calm and cerebral, with some experiencing energetic sensations. The strain is noted for its flavor-forward profile and its ability to provide a pleasant sensory experience.
Terpenes & Cannabinoids
Ninja Fruit typically exhibits THC levels ranging from 17% to 24%, with most batches averaging around 19-21%. CBD content is generally low, usually between 0.1% and 0.5%. Minor cannabinoids like CBG can be present, sometimes ranging from 0.2% to 0.8%. Total cannabinoid content can reach up to 26% in well-cultivated examples. The terpene profile is rich, with common terpenes including Myrcene, Limonene, Caryophyllene, Linalool, Humulene, Ocimene, and Nerolidol, contributing to its complex aroma and flavor.
Growing
Ninja Fruit generally completes its indoor flowering cycle in 56–63 days, with some phenotypes extending to 63–70 days for enhanced coloration and resin development. Outdoor plants in the Northern Hemisphere typically finish from late September to early October. The cultivar displays moderate internodal spacing and strong lateral branching, benefiting from topping and training. It has a favorable calyx-to-leaf ratio, making it relatively easy to trim. Ninja Fruit is considered moderately resilient to pests and diseases, though dense buds can trap moisture, requiring adequate airflow, especially in high humidity environments (above 55% RH).
Origins & Lineage
Credited to West Coast breeders in the mid-2010s, Ninja Fruit is understood to be a cross between Grapefruit Haze and Grape Ape. The breeding objective was to combine the energetic, citrus-forward characteristics of Grapefruit Haze with the deep grape sweetness and color potential of Grape Ape. This cross aims to produce a balanced hybrid with improved flavor retention after curing and a manageable flowering period.
